The 1st Line IT Technician provides front-line technical support to staff and students, ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of IT systems across the school. The role focuses on resolving basic IT issues, setting up devices, supporting classroom technology, and escalating complex problems to senior IT staff where required.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The duties outlined in this job may be modified by the Principal to reflect or anticipate changes in the role commensurate with the salary and job title.
Technical Support
• Provide first-line technical support to teaching and support staff, and students where appropriate
• Respond to IT support requests via helpdesk, email, phone, or in person
• Troubleshoot common issues including:
• Login and password problems
• Network connectivity (wired and Wi Fi)
• Printers
• Interactive SMART screens, projectors, and classroom AV equipment
• Escalate unresolved or complex issues to 2nd/3rd line support
Device & User Management
• Set up, configure, and maintain:
• Desktop PCs, Apple Macs, Laptops and tablets
• Staff and student user accounts (Active Directory / Azure AD / M365)
• Assist with device imaging, re-imaging, and deployment via Intune Software & Systems
• Support core school systems such as:
• Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
• School MIS (SIMS and Arbor – user-level support only) • Install and update approved software and applications
• Ensure antivirus and security systems are up to date Classroom & Exam Support
• Provide on-site classroom technology support when required
• Assist during exams with IT setup and troubleshooting
• Ensure ICT rooms are ready for lessons and assessments Safeguarding & Security
• Follow school safeguarding policies at all times
• Comply with GDPR and data protection requirements
• Maintain confidentiality of user data and sensitive information General Duties
• Maintain documentation and basic user guides
• Support IT projects under the guidance of senior IT staff
• Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by the IT Network Manager
• Manage basic asset tracking of IT equipment
Software & Systems
• Support core school systems such as:
• Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
• School MIS (SIMS and Arbor – user-level support only)
• Install and update approved software and applications
• Ensure antivirus and security systems are up to date
Classroom & Exam Support
